Skyline Acquires Life Science Construction Experts
A New Chapter
Founded in 1989 by John Prevost, Jr., the firm executes large-scale tenant improvements and building redevelopment projects in the life science, tech, creative office, and retail markets. With a focus on employee experience, Prevost believes in sustaining a family-like culture where employees enjoy and thrive in their work environment. This, in turn, allows them to tackle many challenges they face in the high-demand industry. “Our employees are encouraged to be their authentic selves, to develop professionally, and to count on the Prevost team as a part of their family,” says Jamie Prevost, Principal.
Jamie attributes the company’s success over the past 33 years to its employees and their ability to develop trusted relationships with clients and industry colleagues. Forging a reputation as a leader in life science projects in the red-hot San Diego biotech market, Prevost has grown its business over 200% in the past five years. “Delivering an amazing customer experience on every project has always been our vision,” says Jamie,“ and we couldn’t begin to do that without great people providing great service to our valued clients.”
New Horizons
In October 2022, the company was acquired by Skyline Construction, which enabled new employee stock ownership opportunities for the Prevost team. “Becoming an ESOP allows every employee to have a stake in the company. It’s a mutually beneficial option that provides a way for our current and future employees to build their own wealth and save for retirement,” says Jamie.
The partnership also allows Prevost to collaborate within Skyline’s family of companies, which are located in Northern and Southern California, Chicago, and Seattle. “These connections help us stay current on best practices and new technologies so that we can be as efficient and productive as possible,” says Jamie.
Prior to being acquired by Skyline, Prevost acquired MCC Construction in 2021 to add capabilities to work in the multifamily market focused on affordable housing and senior living facilities.
“These services are meaningful to us in light of the homeless situation and high-rent crisis facing our communities. We partner with nonprofits to create better spaces for low-income populations to experience better quality of life,” says Jamie, who serves as a board member of HomeAid* San Diego. “Everything we do is in an effort to help people be happier at work and home.”
A Loving Legacy
As a boy, Jamie recalls summers on his father’s job sites, learning firsthand the ins and outs of the construction industry. John passed away in October 2022, to the grief of all who knew him. But through the leadership of Jamie and his brother, Taylor, who serves as Prevost’s Business Development Manager, John’s family-first culture will endure for generations to come.
“It’s a tremendous honor to carry forward our father’s legacy,” Jamie says. “He modeled authentic care for our clients’ best interests, and he valued trusted relationships where you took people at their word with a handshake and a promise. That’s what we’ll strive to continue doing as this next chapter unfolds as part of the Skyline family of companies. Our job is to make it easy for our clients and deliver best-in-class projects that exceed expectations.”
