BEHAVIORIAL HEALTH FACILITY
The entire building underwent a full demolition before being rebuilt. The first floor was converted into an urgent care center with access to clinicians, short-term observation spaces with a staff bubble, a separate back entrance for easy drop-offs from first responders, and an accessible ambulatory elevator.
> : The second floor consisted of two 16-bed residential care units—a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and an Extended Stabilization Unit (ESU)—along with staff observation bubbles, restrooms and showers, seclusion and quiet rooms, labs, and patient services. All of this required well-crafted pre-construction designs, custom materials, and anti-ligature hardware to prioritize the safety and well-being of the patients and staff.

PRIORITIZING SAFETY & COLLABORATION
Given the stringent safety requirements tied to material selection, there was very little flexibility in the procurement process. For example, padded walls were only supplied by two manufacturers in the United States. The Skyline team worked very closely with each manufacturer to streamline the process and ensure that materials were available on-site to keep the project on track.
> Seamless coordination and communication with city officials to secure crucial approvals was the most critical aspect of this project. In addition to ensuring proper evacuation routes, the Skyline team worked closely with authorities to gain approval for the installation of a large emergency generator, designed to power the building for 72 hours in case of an outage. The inclusion of occupancy IA fire-resistant walls further enhanced safety, allowing extra time for safe evacuation during emergencies.
> Skyline’s collaboration with the City of Kirkland and Connections Health Solutions resulted in a behavioral health crisis care center that exceeds the highest standards of safety, accessibility, and patient care.
